BACKGROUND:
My company Strange.Space was subcontracted by Deep Local to design and build an exhibit featuring four museum ambassadors sharing their versions of the American Dream. We were involved in every stage of the process, from concept through custom software development.
The experience is simple: you talk, they answer.

WHAT WE DID:
Designed the look and feel of the experience and built four AI-powered interactive hologram ambassadors. Serena, Sal, Sanjay, and Sara. The goal was to make it feel like a real conversation, not a history lesson. Visitors can walk up and talk with each ambassador about their life. We designed and built all custom software to run the installation.

LOOK DEVELOPMENT

AMBASSADORS
We built four interactive holograms. Serena, Sal, Sanjay, and Sara. Each ambassador was filmed answering a set of 140 questions pertaining to different subjects in the museum. We developed a large language model to interact with the museum goers, and choose the right clip to pull up from our library depending on what they said. Each ambassador also has to have 4 language modes, meaning each set of clips had to be re-dubbed and lip synced to the other languages. We used AI to do this as well. It’s not perfect, and I had to do a lot of work in post to hide any flaws.

GAME ENGINE
We used unity to handle all the live effects and playback. Each clips was processed in order to get a depth pass, which we used to power the effects. The end result is like a voxel glassmorphic effect.

IMPACT:
The exhibit is part of a museum with a strong collection of interactive installations. We're proud of how the experience turned out. Approachable, human, and genuinely engaging.
