BACKGROUND:

ESI Design created the new headquarters for Major League Baseball celebrating the history, data, and culture of the game across multiple media surfaces and floors. We created multiple digital interactives designed to celebrate the core elements of baseball. We presented new, exciting perspectives on familiar aspects of the game.

WHAT WE DID:

I worked on this from pitch, to production, to installation. We created a robust CMS to showcase baseball’s history and greatest players as well as the latest highlights from across the league.

CONCOURSE:

On the three-story Concourse wall, projection-mapped elements integrate high-resolution media into the faceted architecture of the wall. The diamond design evokes the infield, & serves as a frame for footage.

6TH FLOOR RECEPTION:

At the 6th Floor Reception a 30-screen media array activates the space. I designed and animated over 30 minutes of media for the LCD wall. I animated 3D logos for each team, as well as mascots and green screen footage. I also created branded takeovers, using the whole wall as one canvas.

Media modes include: Ambient, Team Logos, Memorabilia, Social Media, 30 Stadiums, Silhouettes, Takeover

LED SLATS:

The LED Slats are composed of low resolution LED bars mounted behind a plastic veneer that resembles blonde wood. I created a system for what MLB footage works well on this display, and what does not. I created over an hour of pre-rendered content for these displays.

IMPACT:

“The end result is a perfect embodiment of our philosophy of One Baseball,” MLB chief communications officer Pat Courtney says. “This sport is meant for everyone, and we want each person who comes to our offices to feel a part of the game.”

The new headquarters opened in late 2019, scant months before COVID-19 emptied Manhattan’s offices and streets. Now, face-to-face chats between different departments, be it in a break-out space or taking in the eye-level view of the glittering Radio City Music Hall sign from the cafeteria, are the norm.
